Green Day – Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool – have decided to share a New Year’s gift with fans in the form of their brand new single, “One Eyed Bastard,” the final offering ahead of the release of their 14th album Saviors on Jan. 19.
“One Eyed Bastard started off as just a riff that I had — a shuffle, almost like a Black Sabbath kind of riff. Lyrically, I was just reflecting on bad times in life,” shared Armstrong in a statement. “That’s the thing about nostalgia, sometimes you think, ‘That was an awful time.’ Everybody’s got that ugly place in their life where they have to deal with ugly thoughts — it could be like revenge or whatever. Thankfully, I have an outlet in songwriting.”
And that’s not all the good Green Day news, the band has also announced free listening parties for Saviors, taking place at over 200 indie stores worldwide beginning on Jan. 13. These events are free and a full list of participating stores can be found at Listentosaviors.greenday.com.
