Earlier this month, singer-songwriter Bishop Briggs released the deluxe edition of her stellar 2024 album Tell My Therapist I’m Fine via Virgin Music Group. As impressive as Briggs’ powerhouse vocals sound on the recorded versions of songs like “My Serotonin” and “Hurt Me Now,” they were even more electrifying in the live setting when they appeared early during her March 22 performance at Metro.

With strength and vulnerability wrestling in every lyrical phrase, Briggs captivated Chicago fans by leaving everything she had on that iconic stage. Rather than relying solely on new material, Briggs explored her entire discography throughout the night.

“In the prep for this show, I wanted to make the best setlist of all-time, which, you know, is a bit of pressure on myself. But, I was thinking about when I go to shows and see the artist of my dreams, I don’t want to only hear the most recent album. Even if I’m obsessed with said album, which of course you guys are,” Briggs said with a laugh to deafening cheers joking that she believed the cheering even though she may have urged them on. “I hope it’s okay if tonight has a mix of old and new.”

Classic songs like “Champion,” “White Flag,” and “River” were definitely highlights of the stacked setlist.

While Ellise – who Briggs referred to as “a magical performer” – was scheduled to open, she unfortunately fell ill before the Chicago show. Luckily, Briggs is touring with another musician in tow, her “sweet husband” Landon Jacobs of Sir Sly, who has been looking after the couple’s young son as Briggs entertains the masses each night. Performing under the moniker Sly Jr., he shared fan favorite Sir Sly songs as well as a few selections that had never been performed live until that very occasion.

The show’s transformation into a family affair, only added to the impeccable vibes of the night as fans knew they were part of a rare and beautiful experience.
