Chris Rock to produce late night talk show & star in Adam Sandler’s next movie

It was just announced that the Chris Rock-produced late-night talk show The Rundown With Robin Thede has just received a 24-episode pick-up on BET. The news comes on the heels of Tuesday’s headlines announcing Rock’s boarding Adam Sandler’s next Netflix comedy feature The Week Of.

The Rundown will feature host Robin Thede for a half-hour news satire series that will, according to THR, see the comedian addressing the week’s political and pop culture headlines in rapid fire fashion with sketch, parody and a whole lotta social commentary. Thede will executive produce the series, to premiere in the fall, along with Rock & Jax Media’s (Full Frontal With Samantha Bee) Lilly Burns, Tony Hernandez, John Skidmore and Genevieve Aniello.

Sandler’s forthcoming Netflix comedy, which secedes the network and comedian’s previous trio of feature film collaborations The Ridiculous Six (2015), The Do-Over (2016) and this year’s Sandy Wexler (which featured a cameo by Rock), will see Rock co-starring alongside the Happy Madison mastermind with frequent Sandler collaborator Robert Smigel (who co-wrote the film with Sandler) in the director’s chair.

Per Deadline, The Week Of will begin filming this summer on Long Island and will follow Sandler’s character as he preps for his daughter’s wedding to the son of Rock’s character. Sandler and Allen Covert will produce for Happy Madison, with Barry Bernardi and Tim Herlihy to exec produce.

While Netflix has certainly taken a liking to Sandler (the duo just agreed last month to do another four films together), it has also shown Rock some love… to the tune of $40 million dollars. The deal, a two pack of stand-up comedy specials, was struck in October of last year and ends an eight-year stage absence for the comedian.
