Listen: LIV shares first single ‘Wings of Love’

LIV Lykke Li Miike Snow

Everyone loves a new supergroup, especially when said act is fronted by one of the most bewitching and talented artists of modern times. Swedish Goddess Lykke Li has joined forces with Miike Snow members Andrew Wyatt and Pontus Winberg, producer Jeff Bhasker and Peter Bjorn and John musician Bjorn Yttling to form the intriguing new band, LIV.

The group’s first single, “Wings of Love,” features an early-70s dreaminess – reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac – with Li and Wyatt’s airy vocals gently guiding listeners through the musical journey. Hypnotic acoustic guitars and a firm drum beat ground the track as a curious electric guitar riff explores the potential of ever-evolving scales. There is no word yet on when a full album can be expected, but “Wings of Love” is currently available to be streamed on Spotify.

The new track comes as a welcome surprise to fans of Li’s eclectic sound as it’s been over two years since she dropped her last album, I Never Learn, back in 2014. Her previous works include 2011’s Wounded Rhymes and her stunning debut, Youth Novels, which introduced her talents to the world in 2008. Miike Snow and Peter Bjorn and John both released new LPs earlier this year.

LIV provided a little more information about what they are all about in a poetic press statement which read, “liv: life, vida, leban, la vie, sheng, vita, hayat, lewe, vitae, lavi, lifetime, existence.” It continued, “In the early light, on the innermost side, the closest leaves are still shades of black. All the memories of your sorrow, they can be a bridge to walk on.”

Listen to LIV’s hauntingly beautiful debut track “Wings of Love” above and head over to Miikesnow.com to pick-up tickets to see the group perform live this October. Fingers crossed that we get a U.S tour from this powerhouse group – or at least a few special festival sets – in 2017.
