There may be no sweeter way to celebrate a World Series victory than a sing-along with Chicago natives Bill Murray and Eddie Vedder. We know that now, of course, after this little video surfaced of the pair — joined by Derek Trucks and a whole lot of Cubs fans — doing exactly that. The eclectic trio of beloved entertainers got a little help from their Windy City friends, belting out a heartfelt rendition of The Band’s 1968 classic “The Weight.
The intimate jam seen in the above video arrived earlier this week courtesy of Pearl Jam Radio. It was recorded at a private house party in Wrigleyville following Saturday night’s Game 4, which saw the Cleveland Indians take a 3-1 lead in the series. The Cubs ultimately went on to turn things around and take the series with back-to-back-to-back victories in the series’ final three games. Good luck omen, anybody?
Tedeschi Trucks Band took to Facebook to share a few choice words regarding the above musical moment:
“Life and baseball fandom take you to some strange and awesome places at times… Here’s Derek and Eddie Vedder with a late night version of “The Weight,” accompanied by Bill Murray and friends in the wee hours after game 4 of the World Series.”
While Trucks wasn’t much seen during the World Series, the same cannot be said for Vedder and Murray. The two were pretty much ever-present throughout the seven games but most notably when Murray sang a comic rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” in the style of Daffy Duck during Game 3 at Wrigley and when Vedder took on the honors during Game 5. Actors John Cusack and Charlie Sheen, who both interestingly appeared in the 1988 biographical Black Sox drama, Eight Men Out, also made appearances, as did Bonnie Hunt, LeBron James and Drew Carey.
