Judd Apatow is expected to premiere a new comedy special on Netflix later this year. The man of many talents, whose movies — Knocked Up, Funny People, The 40-Year-Old Virgin — you may have heard of, will be bringing his comedy career full circle as he records his first ever stand-up special this July. See him talk about the special in the Conan clip above.
Apatow will be taping the above-mentioned special, which has yet to reveal its title, at this year’s Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. The comedian is slated for a handful of performances on July 28-29 at 5ieme Salle at Place des Arts at JFL 2017 and you can find more information about those shows here.
Though Apatow made his name through writing, directing and producing TV and feature films, he began his comedy career at age 17 doing stand-up. He has performed stand-up onscreen in a special for HBO back in the 90s and, more recently, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, but this will officially mark his hour-long debut.
Along with the above films, Apatow also directed Amy Schumer’s 2015 mega-hit movie Trainwreck and produced Kumail Nanjiani’s new film The Big Sick. He’s also behind critically-acclaimed series’ including HBO’s Girls, Crashing starring Pete Holmes and Netflix’s Love.
Catch Apatow on one of his upcoming tour dates, which include a pair of shows at The Wilbur this July, and keep your eyes peeled for his new stand-up comedy special, streaming exclusively on Netflix sometime later this year.
