Netflix is about to bring six up-and-coming comedians to the masses with their forthcoming original comedy series The Standups. Get a feel for what’s to come this July in the short trailer above, featuring rapid-fire jokes from its cast of six.
Apparently, there will be no shortage of laughs in The Standups, Netflix’s new series featuring six half-hour specials from six budding comics in the world of stand-up. As seen in the above trailer, the cast — Beth Stelling, Nate Bargatze, Deon Cole, Nikki Glaser, Dan Soder, Fortune Feimster — deliver a sampling of their 2,395 jokes (yes, apparently some poor intern at Netflix was tasked with counting) and, from the looks of it, fans can expect a whole lot of laughs.
The Standups follows Netflix’s 2016 release The Characters which, while more sketchy in style, similarly featured a series of eight comedians including Kate Berlant and John Early putting their comedic talents on display. The series can best be described as Netflix’s answer to Comedy Central Stand-Up Presents… (previously known as Comedy Central’s The Half Hour).
The Standups is just one of many original stand-up comedy specials to drop on Netflix this year. The streaming service has already brought viewers hour-longs from the likes of Louis C.K. Amy Schumer, Dave Chappelle, Sarah Silverman, Maria Bamford, Tracy Morgan and others with Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock and many more slated to debut specials in the coming months.
The Standups, which was live taped at the Cicada Restaurant in Los Angeles back in February and March of this year, premieres on Netflix July 4.
