This fall, Smashing Pumpkins frontman, William Patrick Corgan, is set to release his second solo album, Ogilala, via BMG on Oct. 13. The album, which is produced by Rick Rubin and recorded at Shangri La studios, finds the Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter exploring the scope of acoustic guitar, piano and strings under distinct melodies.
“For as long as I can remember the delineation point between songs I wrote for myself and songs I’d pen for whatever band was something I couldn’t explain. And it remains so, for they all feel quite personal to me, no matter their time or era. The lone difference on songs for Ogilala is that they seemed to want little in the way of adornment,” said Corgan in a statement. “Having written the songs for voice and guitar, I put myself in Rick’s hands to take the music wherever he’d like. Normally I would have done more, and tinkered more on production, but rather Rick put the onus on me to deliver at a molecular level via live takes. The rest was simply a reaction.”
Corgan has also announced his plans to embark on a solo acoustic tour that kicks off on Oct. 14 at the Murmrr Theatre in Brooklyn. Nashville, San Francisco and his hometown of Chicago, IL – where he will be performing at the Athenaeum Theatre on Oct. 24 & 25 – are among the other great cities on Corgan’s itinerary. The tour will conclude with a trio of performances in Los Angeles in early November.
Ogilala‘s lead single “Aeronaut” is available now and all fans who pre-order the new album will receive an immediate download of the track. Check out a full list of tour dates below and click here to pre-order Ogilala in advance of its Oct. 13 release.
