Netflix has been having an amazing year when it comes to stand-up comedy with Dave Chappelle, Louis CK, Sarah Silverman, Bill Burr and many more of the funniest people on the planet teaming up with the streaming service to release new stand-up specials. On Sept. 19, Netflix will drop what could be its biggest get yet when Jerry Seinfeld’s new hour, Jerry Before Seinfeld, premieres on the platform.
The special – which was filmed at The Comic Strip in New York – will showcase Seinfeld at his observational best along with segments featuring childhood videos and clips examining the comedian’s joke notebooks dating back to the 1970s. Seinfeld is also set to film a second stand-up special exclusively for Netflix.
Along with the new specials, Seinfeld also partnered with Netflix to produce new episodes of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which will premiere in late 2017. Prior seasons of the mobile, caffeinated talk show will be available on the streaming service at that time.
“When I first started thinking about Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, the entire Netflix business model consisted of mailing out DVDs in envelopes. I love that we are now joining together, both at very different points,” said Seinfeld in a statement at the time of the deal’s announcement. “I am also very excited to be working with Ted Sarandos at Netflix, a guy and a place that not only have the same enthusiasm for the art of stand up comedy as I do, but the most amazing technology platform to deliver it in a way that has never existed before. I am really quite charged up to be moving there.”
Leading up to the September premiere of Seinfeld’s first Netflix special, the network recently shared a series of teasers via Instagram. Check out the clips below and mark your calendars for Sept. 19 to catch the world premiere of Jerry Before Seinfeld on Netflix.
