Watch Jerry Seinfeld talk childhood in new Netflix special trailer

King of observational comedy Jerry Seinfeld will release his new stand-up special Jerry Before Seinfeld on Netflix later this month. In advance of the sure-to-be hilarious hour-long, the streaming giant and modern go-to comedy platform has just released a new trailer, which can be viewed above.

Seinfeld’s new special sees the comedian riffing on a host of topics, from his coming out as a “funny person” to his parent, to his coming up in the New York comedy scene in the 1970s. There’s also a particularly funny bit centered on the parenting methods (or lack thereof) that were in style at the time he was growing up.

“My parents… they didn’t even know our names,” jokes Seinfeld. “They were ignorant. They were negligent. We grew up like wild dogs in the ’60s. No helmets, no seat belts, no restraints.” He goes on to elaborate on the sugar-centric breakfast popular at the time. “Cookie Crisp. It’s not like cookies, it is cookies,” he emphatically states. “I was either eating 100% sugar or airborne.”

In keeping with the modern comedy special trend, Seinfeld’s new hour-long appears to not only feature traditional stand-up comedy, it also incorporates some off-stage material and pre-existing video clips.

Jerry Before Seinfeld was filmed at the Comic Strip in New York City. The personal retrospective comedy special, directed by Michael Bonfiglio, premieres on Netflix on Sept. 19.
