After a decade break following his run on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Ed Helms is returning to Comedy Central for a new satire special titled The Fake News with Ted Helms. The new special will premiere on the network next month.
As the title suggests, The Fake News with Ted Helms will focus current politics and the fake news epidemic surrounding it. According the CC, it will be “ridiculous, made-up news that closely resembles actual news, delivered by a ridiculous, made-up anchor who closely resembles Ed Helms.” The one-hour special will reportedly look “like CNN with the volume off” but, with the volume on, will be a fast-paced “constant stream of jokes” presented in “extreme deadpan” fashion.
Helms, as Nelms, will inject his own brand of silliness while tackling non-factual content, pushing a fake news national crisis involving President Trump getting stuck in an abandoned well. Helms shared his thoughts on returning to the network for the forthcoming one-off in a recent statement:
“So thrilled to be returning to Comedy Central after all these years for my new special The Fake News with Ted Nelms. Obviously there are lot of news organizations out there just making up a bunch of crap and calling it news. But unlike those others, we’re doing it better, faker, and stupider. And we’re joking.”
The Fake News with Ted Nelms is executive produced by Pacific Electric Picture Company’s Helms and Mike Falbo along with Nelson Walters. Elliot Kalan is aboard as head writer and co-executive producer.
Catch the premiere Dec. 13 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT only on Comedy Central.
