Following the announcement that David Byrne’s new solo album, American Utopia, will drop on March 9 via Todomundo/Nonesuch Records, the legendary musician has revealed that he will be heading out on an extensive world tour. During the musical road-trip, Byrne will perform tracks from the new record as well as classics from his solo career and his time with the Talking Heads.
“The show concept is simple,” Byrne said in an email to fans. “Like the concept behind the show that was filmed for Stop Making Sense, the idea is super obvious and easy to describe. In that show, it was ‘bit by bit show what goes into making a show, and then activate it.’ In this one, it is ‘allow everyone to be mobile on an empty stage(and imagine what that allows).’”
A 12-piece band is set to accompany Byrne on stage for these choreographed concerts.
The American Utopia World Tour kicks off on March 19 in Buenos Aires, Argentina and runs until Aug. 28 where it will conclude in Morrison, CO. Tickets go on sale on Friday, Jan. 19 and all online ticket purchases for the US will receive a CD of the new album.
