Bill Maher’s 11th stand-up special ‘Triggered’ set to air on HBO

HBO has just announced comedian Bill Maher will debut his next stand-up special on the premium cable network. The hour-long, titled Triggered, will air live from Tulsa, Oklahoma’s Brady Theater on Saturday, July 7.

Triggered is Maher’s first special in four years, following his 2014’s Live From D.C., which also debuted on HBO. The new hour-long will be exec produced by Maher along with Neal Marshall, Marc Gurvitz and Beth McCarthy-Miller — the lattermost who is also onboard to direct.

“The paradox of my life is, the more horrifying the country under Trump becomes, the more fun we have at my stand-up shows – I guess it’s a release, or whistling past the graveyard, or a primal scream,” Maher said in a statement. “They want me to be mean, and I am. Half of this show is about Trump, but I am determined to make half of it about me – my way of saying, ‘Trump, you don’t get to win!’”

It should come as no surprise that Maher has decided to partner with HBO for Triggered. He has a longtime relationship with the network, dating all the way back to his first special in 1989 and has starred in ten HBO solo specials to date. He is an exec producer of the HBO’s Vice — now in its sixth season — and is currently amidst the 16th season of Real Time with Bill Maher.
