While trophies were being handed out to the biggest names in Hollywood at the 91st Academy Awards, drama unfolded at “The New On Cinema Oscar Special” on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019. After an uneventful opening, compliments of Rafael “Daffy Raffy” Torres and film expert Gregg Turkington, the show’s rightful host Tim Heidecker – armed with a court order and pepper spray – reclaimed the event from the grips of Delgado Media Holdings.
With Heidecker back in control, fans were treated to informative discussions on a wide variety of subjects including legal advice and health and wellness apparel recommendations. The once exiled host donned a fashionable and functional magnetic vest (Spoiler Alert: Side effects may include destruction of VHS collections).
To his credit, Turkington booked the talented Tolkien-inspired group, Thains of the Shire, to perform transition music, but Heidecker once again stole the show, later fronting the trio in a boozy, bluegrass rendition of “Oscar Fever.”
Joe Estevez was on hand to share his experiences navigating the inner-workings of the Hollywood system while Turkington curated a slew of interesting segments including “Ask Oscar” featuring Mark Proksch as the much coveted statue. Some may call it movie magic, but a true “On Cinema” miracle occurred when Proksch emerged from a year-long coma providing a happy ending perfect for the silver screen.
From film-buff to filmmaker, Turkington’s grand finale came in the form of a brand new sequel to the iconic film Kramer vs. Kramer, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
The highlight of the night came when Axiom and Manuel surprised everyone by stopping by the special for an impromptu Dekkar reunion. The group’s cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody” was the cherry on top of an already amazing evening of expert analysis.
Law enforcement made an appearance near the end of the special and Heidecker has stated on social media that he is safe and has plans to meet with officers in the near future.
