‘The Center of Nowhere’ to screen at The Music Box Theatre on April 4

The Center of Nowhere, The Spirit and Sounds of Springfield, MO will be screening at The Music Box Theatre on April 4. Writer, artist and actor Tony Fitzpatrick will also be on-hand at the music documentary’s screening, taking on hosting duties for the evening.

The Center of Nowhere explores the musical history of the little town known as the “Queen City of the Ozarks.” The film dives into the history of the often-overlooked city, which in actuality played a fascinating role in the history of American music.

The Center of Nowhere was written, directed and produced by Dave Hoekstra and features award-winning animation by Sharon Rutledge. The 95-minute documentary examines the Springfield community and its unique music scene through interviews collected over a six year period. Among those featured in the film are Dave Alvin, Eric “Roscoe” Ambel, Randle and Jaynie Chowning, Robbie Fulks, Merle Haggard, Brenda Lee, Bobby Lloyd Hicks, Scott Kempner, Melinda Mullins, Jonathan Richman, Dan Penn, Andy Shernoff, Scott Siman, Donnie Thompson, Lou Whitney and Syd Straw.

Though The Center of Nowhere’s emphasis is on music, the film is also an exploration of the influential city of Springfield, the birthplace of Route 66. The film, which received multiple Maverick Movie award nominations, was featured in the St. Louis International Film Fest and screened at the Country Music Hall of Fame.
