Sasquatch! founder Adam Zacks has just announced his latest venture, the THING Festival. The brand new fest, which will take place Aug. 24-25 at the historic Fort Worden in Port Townsend, WA, will see performances from Violent Femmes, Jeff Tweedy and De La Soul.
Among the other musical acts slated to perform are Kurt Vile & The Violators, Café Tacvba, Calexico with Iron & Wine, Tank and the Bangas, Khruangbin, Phosphorescent, Parquet Courts, John Reilly & Friends, Ryley Walker, Japanese Breakfast, Snail Mail, Bedouine and Black Belt Eagle Scout.
To help differentiate itself from the massive pool of other music festivals around the country, THING will also feature visual art, yoga, guided hikes and a live reading of the film classic An Officer and A Gentleman, among other things. Todd Barry is slated to perform some comedy, while Macaulay Culkin will present his podcast The Bunny Ears live. Natasha Lyonne, Lindy West and Stephen Tobolowsky will also be on-hand to help shape the unique two-day festival event as will the cast of the 2004 indie comedy Napoleon Dynamite, who will be holding a discussion and screening of the cult film.
Fans can expect three primary stages at this year’s THING Festival, including a decommissioned zeppelin hanger (McCurdy Pavilion), an art-deco theater (Wheeler Theatre) and Parade Grounds over looking Puget Sound. Those looking to camp out for the weekend will have the option of standard camping or RV camping, both of which will be offered at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
