This year marks the 35th anniversary of one of the funniest comedy films ever made, This Is Spinal Tap. To help celebrate the iconic rock mockumentary, cast members Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael Mckean made an appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend, entertaining fans with an acoustic performance featuring special guest Elvis Costello.
The performance took place on Saturday night at the Beacon Theatre, following a screening of This Is Spinal Tap (which was introduced by the film’s director Rob Reiner). After playing a handful of songs from the coveted Spinal Tap catalogue — “Hell Hole,” Flower People,” All the Way Home,” Big Bottom” and more — band members Nigel Tufnel (Guest), Derek Smalls (Shearer) and David St. Hubbins (McKean) welcomed Costello to the stage for a rendition of their classic tune, “Gimme Some Money.”
The group closed out their epic 30+ minute show with a titillating interpretation of “Sex Farm,” after which McKean declared “We will see you in another 35 years.”
