Netflix just dropped the trailer for its new original comedy series Mr. Iglesias. Watch Fluffy aka Gabriel Iglesias play the role of teacher in the above teaser clip.
Mr. Iglesias is a multi-camera comedy series starring Iglesias. In the show, Iglesias plays a good-natured high school teacher, attempting to unlock the potential of a group of gifted misfit students, while facing off against the bully assistant principal Carlos (Oscar Nunez from The Office), who’s dead set on getting rid of them.
Mr. Iglesias, an homage of sorts to Iglesias’ high school speech teacher, is not your traditional comedy series. Comprised of 10-episodes, the show will attempt to fuse comedy and heart, offering viewers a healthy serving of both silliness and substance.
“Everyone is going through something, including me,” Iglesias told EW. “My character has a lot of emotional and personal baggage that he’s working through. Some of it was very personal to me and some of it was Hollywood. But know that I put a lot of things out there. I think people will be surprised about how far we go. … I want to make sure that I’m putting everything I have into this and having fun while doing it.”
Iglesias’ forthcoming show is part of a larger partnership with streaming giant Netflix. The comedian has already released two stand-up comedy specials on the service (One Show Fits All dropped earlier this year in January) and has a third on the way.
Mr. Iglesias, which also co-stars Jacob Vargas, Maggie Geha, Sherri Shepherd, and Richard Gant, premieres June 21 exclusively on Netflix.
