HBO to premiere Mel Brooks comedy special documentary on Dec. 13

Mel Brooks Unwrapped

For over 60 years, Mel Brooks has been one of the biggest names in comedy. Your Show of Shows, Get Smart, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and The Producers are just a few of the iconic projects on which Brooks has served as a writer, director and/or producer.

On Friday, Dec. 13, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, HBO will debut the new comedy special, Mel Brooks Unwrapped, giving fans a look back at his storied career through past and present interviews with Alan Yentob, former creative director for the BBC. The comedian has been interviewed by Yentob many times since 1981 and the special will feature archival footage as well as new interviews of the now 93-year-old Brooks.

Brooks’ friend and frequent collaborator, Carl Reiner – who calls Mel “the funniest human being in the world – is also set to appear in Mel Brooks Unwrapped.

Along with being one of the most influential comedians of all time, Brooks is also a member of an elite group of artists who have earned “EGOT” status. He’s won several Emmy Awards (three for his work as a guest actor in Mad About You), multiple Grammys (including Best Spoken Comedy Album for The 2000 Year Old Man in the Year 2000), an Oscar for writing The Producers and several Tony Awards for the Broadway version of The Producers.

Along with appearing on HBO, Mel Brooks Unwrapped will also be available on HBO and its partner streaming platforms.

In conjunction with the release of the new special, Mel Brooks Live at the Geffen (2015) and Mel Brooks and Dick Cavett Together Again (2011) will return on HBO GO and HBO NOW. More information about Mel Brooks Unwrapped is available at www.hbo.com.
