Chicago musician Tim Larson’s upcoming album, Flickering Headlights Illuminate the Way, won’t be released until September 18, but today he has shared two songs, “The Field Where I Watched You Ride” and the title track, from the project with fans.
Both tunes are haunting examples of Larson’s masterful folk songwriting, steeped in country and blues with a darker veneer. The songs were first written in 2015, following the release of Vargar, and continued to evolve into spacier versions after some encouragement from Dave Callahan (Drovers) – who suggested keeping the music and rewriting the lyrics – and a personal exploration of compositions and sounds.
Larson used the Izotope Spire portable wireless studio to create the recordings which were made everywhere from his back porch to the Chicago River to the barn behind his parent’s house in Wisconsin.
Head over to Bandcamp to listen to “The Field Where I Watched You Ride” and “Flickering Headlights Illuminate the Way” and stay tuned for upcoming tracks which will be release two at a time over the next five months until the full album drops on Sept. 18. Click here to follow Larson on Twitter.
