President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris spent the evening of Jan. 20 “Celebrating America” with some of the biggest names in music. John Legend, Katy Perry, Tim McGraw and more artists performed at the event – hosted by Tom Hanks – but the stand-out moment belonged to The Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen.
Standing alone encircled in lights, Springsteen performed a solo rendition of “Land of Hope and Dreams” from 2012’s Wrecking Ball to open the show.
“Leave behind your sorrows/Let this day be the last/Tomorrow there’ll be sunshine/And all this darkness past/Big wheels roll through fields where sunlight streams/Meet me in a land of hope and dreams,” he sang live from the heart of Washington, D.C.
This wasn’t Springsteen’s first musical celebration of a new president as he previously joined Pete Seeger to sing “This Land Is Your Land” to honor the incoming Obama administration back in 2009.
