Fresh off the release of their third studio album, Skinty Fia – which dropped on April 22 via Partisan Records – Irish post-punk rockers, Fontaines D.C. stopped by The Vic Theatre on Friday, May 6, 2022 to share a slew of songs from their entire discography.
At once manic and brooding, vocalist Grian Chatten continually stalked the stage evaluating the best moments to pounce on fans’ frenetic energy. All the while Carlos O’Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan III (bass guitar), and Tom Coll (drums) constructed a pulsing vortex of sound that pulled fans deeper into the music with each passing measure.

After opening with menacing takes on “A Lucid Dream,” “Hurricane Laughter” and “Sha Sha Sha,” the group introduced the crowd to some new material with a patient rendition of “Roman Holiday.” Further Skinty Fia tunes that appeared on the setlist include “Jackie Down the Line,” “I Love You” and the album’s title track.
Earlier in the night, Fontaines D.C.’s label-mates Just Mustard – Katie Ball (vocals), David Noonan (guitar/vocals), Mete Kalyon (guitar), Rob Clarke (bass), Shane Maguire (drums) – kicked off the night with a deliciously moody set of their own sharing a handful of tracks from their 2022 release, Heart Under, and more.
