Everyone from Jerry Seinfeld to Bill Burr to Chris Rock have proposed the idea that political correctness is hurting comedy. While many comedians may change their style to adjust to new liberal conservative comedy crowds, Donnell Rawlings doesn’t hold back his humor offensive on his hilarious new album, Ain’t Worried About…, which is set to drop via BSeenMedia on Feb. 17.
After breaking down the lyrical range of his intro music – French Montana’s “Ain’t Worried About Nothin” – Rawlings dives right into the topic that worries him most, ISIS. “I said ISIS, the whole room got quiet as sh*t,” he says noting that everyone instantly starts scanning the room for possible terrorists as soon as the topic is breached. From there, Rawlings reveals that the only person who is happy about ISIS is Bill Cosby because at least the media can “stop talking about these b*tches for a couple of days.” From Puddin’ Pops to Hey Hey Hey pills, the comedian separates the truth from the lies – which depend on your zip code – of the situation.
Ain’t Worried About… was recorded before Donald Trump took office, yet Rawlings perfectly captures the ridiculousness of his campaign slogan and the horror of a Trump Presidency calling it a “horrible *ss thought.” “I don’t like Donald Trump. I don’t even like motherf*ckers who like Donald Trump,” he says before mocking the border wall and Trump’s obsession with China. Later, Rawlings reveals the one reason he voted for Obama and how the former-president has helped the black community.
“Is this racist,” he asks the crowd, perfectly setting-up his hysterical track entitled, “Where You From?” He also has fans laughing uncontrollably as he details his own experiences growing-up from being an incubator baby to the terror of reading out loud in class. Civil rights, slavery, pregnancy and the politics of potato salad also are transformed into hilarious comedy from the mind of Rawlings.
Whether he’s performing in a sketch in “Chappelle’s Show” or appearing on “Chelsea Lately,” Rawlings always manages to generate guttural laughter from every topic he analyses – no matter how serious, offensive or controversial – and his latest album only adds to his reputation as one of the most fearless and funny comics in the business.
