A balance of the blues and modern R&B is what’s in store on Demetria Taylor’s new album, Doin’ What I’m Supposed to Do, set to be released on Aug. 19 via Delmark Records.
The tracklist is a celebration of the music and musicians who shaped Taylor’s life with some songs having been written by her family members – she is the daughter of Chicago blues legend Eddie Taylor – her bandmates Mike Wheeler and Larry Williams, Magic Sam, as well as Taylor herself.
Doin’ What I’m Supposed to Do is the highly-anticipated follow-up to Taylor’s Delmark debut, Bad Girl, which was nominated for Best New Artist Debut in the 2012 Blues Music Awards. Recently, Taylor was honored as the recipient of the Jus’ Blues Foundation’s Koko Taylor “Queen of the Blues” Award in 2022.
A special record release party is scheduled to take place at SPACE in Evanston on Aug. 22.
