After headlining sets from the Foo Fighters, Turnstile, The Postal Service, Death Cab for Cutie, Queens of the Stone Age, The Cure and The Mars Volta conclude at Chicago’s Douglass Park each night of Riot Fest – taking place Sept. 15 through Sept. 17 – fans have the option to head out to venues across the city to keep the party going with an incredible selection of aftershows.
Whether you like ska, experimental rock, pop punk, or genres impossible to define, these Riot Fest aftershows will inspire everyone to push sleep aside for the weekend. Here’s a look at our favorite Riot Fest Late Night shows taking place this year.
Wednesday, Sept. 13 – Tegan and Sara at Bottom Lounge
Part aftershow and part pre-party, Tegan and Sara’s Wednesday night performance is poised to set the stage for the epic weekend ahead. The Sisters Quin are no strangers to aftershows – having played a late-night Lolla set back in 2017 – and they often use the opportunity to create candid moments with fans. What a great way to kick-off Riot Fest 2023!
Thursday, September 14 – Bayside at Bottom Lounge
Riot Fest regulars Bayside are hosting their own pre-fest aftershow at the Bottom Lounge on Thursday night. Expect the space to absolutely erupt with energy as Anthony Raneri and company perform to a crowd that has already been hyped up by the evening’s openers Hawthorne Heights.
Friday, September 15 – Frank Turner & the Sleeping Souls at Chop Shop
Chop Shop is the place to be for folk punk fans on Friday night as Frank Turner & the Sleeping Souls are set to headline an 18+ aftershow ahead of their Riot Fest appearance on Saturday. Rebuilder will also be on hand to pack even more music into the intimate space.
Saturday, September 16 – The Interrupters at Concord Music Hall
When The Interrupters played House of Blues back in April, vocalist Aimee Interrupter hinted that the band would be back in September. Yes, they are set to unleash their unique brand of ska punk at Douglass Park on Friday, but fans will not want to miss their Saturday night aftershow at Concord Music Hall. The Interrupters are known for their dynamic live shows so a good time is all but guaranteed.
Sunday, September 17 – Sleeping with Sirens at Concord Music Hall
After The Cure play the final notes of Riot Fest 2023, fans who want to keep the fun alive should head over to Concord Music Hall to see Sleeping with Sirens. With Kellin Quinn at the band’s helm, this show promises to provide a cathartic sing-along that will linger in fans’ memories until it’s time for Riot Fest 2024.
